Atlanta Falcons request permission to interview Antonio Pierce

Atlanta Falcons have expanded their search for a new head coach by including Antonio Pierce in the list of candidates. According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Atlanta has formally requested an interview with the current interim Head Coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

It is unclear if Pierce will take the interview, but he did meet with the Tennessee Titans virtually on Saturday. No teams can hold face-to-face interviews with coaches employed by other teams until at least January 22. In the meantime a couple of outside teams have requested interviews with Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce for their head coaching vacancies.

There’s notable interest in Antonio Pierce for the Raiders’ full-time Head Coach position, with Raiders owner Mark Davis reportedly impressed by him. Recent reports suggest that Pierce has a strong chance to secure the permanent HC role. However, Davis is also considering high-profile candidates like Jim Harbaugh and Bill Belichick.

As of now, Davis hasn’t conducted any HC interviews as he aims to hire a permanent GM first. Meanwhile, the Falcons are actively conducting interviews for their head coaching position. The team has a diverse pool of candidates, and there are rumors that they might be an appealing destination for someone like Bill Belichick. Despite being an unconventional choice, the Falcons are considering Pierce, recognizing his quick rapport and enthusiastic support from his players.
