We actually have a couple of statements.
The first statement is from the Cal Baptist Volleyball team.
Our volleyball team’s image has been tainted do to the inexcusable acts of these two girls. They are not and have not ever been on any of our teams, but people are lashing out at us for their actions because they are believed to be student-athletes. The University is handling the incident, but is it possible to clarify that they are students from California Baptist, NOT student-athletes on any team at CBU? We do not condone that type of behavior at all and do not want to be associated with it.
The second statement is from the school itself.
On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, an incident occurred at a pre-season NBA basketball game at the Ontario Citizens Business Bank Arena. While this was not an event affiliated with California Baptist University, two current CBU students were involved.
On Thursday morning, October 5, 2017, CBU learned of this incident and initiated an investigation and plans to take appropriate action. CBU does not condone or support the behavior depicted in the recording of the incident.
CBU takes this matter very seriously and is cooperating with law enforcement and arena management.
At the moment neither Sugg or Perea have been punished. Perea did reach out to me and blamed Sugg for the entire incident, but did not take responsibility or apologize for recording it.
