Draymond Green Booed in his Golden State Warriors return

Grizzlies fans expressed their sentiments toward Draymond Green as he made his way to the court, showering him with boos when he checked into the game with just over 6 minutes left in the first quarter. However, the jeers didn’t seem to bother Green, who promptly silenced the crowd by nailing a three-pointer shortly after entering the game.

This marked Draymond Green’s official return to the court in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, following his indefinite suspension. The Golden State Warriors announced Green as “active” for the road matchup, sharing a clip of him dunking during pregame warmups.

Green, a four-time champion, came off the bench for Golden State, and the team is undoubtedly hoping he provides a spark as they currently hold an 18-21 record, placing them towards the bottom of the Western Conference. Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged that Green hasn’t played in a while, suggesting that his minutes in the first game back may be limited.

“It will mostly be based on how he’s feeling and how that unit is doing while he’s out there,” Kerr mentioned to reporters before the game. “We’ll just see how it goes.”

Green’s absence from the court was due to his suspension following an incident where he hit Phoenix Suns player Jusuf Nurkic on Dec. 12. During his time away, Green sought counseling and focused on his life away from basketball. He had considered walking away from his pro career, but commissioner Adam Silver talked him out of it. Green has expressed his intention to leave the “antics” behind and let his skills on the court speak for themselves.
